We explain Core Loop [Podcast #16].

We continue to explore design concepts and discuss them, almost as if it were a MasterClass. We seek to provide more and more context for our audience, so that they can understand everything or almost everything we talk about in our programs.

The Core Loop is a fundamental concept in video game design, especially in online and mobile games. In general terms, it is the buckle of actions that players repeat or must repeat throughout the game. Ideally, this loop of activities is what will keep the player interested in continuing to play.

It should not go by a justification from fun (something we already discussed with our MDA model program), but rather each moment of the Loop should be interesting enough to cue the next and, once the buckle closes, motivate to start it once again.

There are simpler loops and more complicated ones. We can even try to reduce the buckles of the most complex games to a more simplified and fundamental expression. But I’m not going to beat around the bush, I’ll leave you with the program so you can listen to it and draw your own conclusions:
